What we collect, and what we do with it.
This page covers two things: information collected by this website, and how we handle student data when we tutor for a school.
This website
The partner form.When you submit an inquiry, we collect what you enter (your name, role, work email, optional phone number, school, and the details of your request) plus your browser’s user-agent string. We use it only to respond to you about a possible partnership. It is stored in a secure database that only our staff can access, and it is never sold, rented, shared for marketing, or used for advertising. Please do not include student information in the form.
Browsing. The public site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps standard server logs. A restricted document area sets one cookie whose only purpose is to keep authorized visitors signed in.
Children. This site is written for school staff and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children through it.
Student data, when we tutor
When a school partners with us, student data is governed by our written agreement with that school and by New York City Public Schools’ data privacy and security requirements, which we sign before receiving any student information. In summary:
- We comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and New York Education Law §2-d, including the Parents’ Bill of Rights for Data Privacy and Security.
- We collect only what tutoring requires: roster information, relevant assessment results, and the attendance and skill data our tutors record.
- Student data is encrypted, available only to staff who need it to deliver or supervise tutoring, and never sold or used for marketing or advertising.
- Tutoring sessions are not recorded.
- When an agreement ends, student data is returned or deleted as the agreement specifies, and we confirm in writing.
Families with questions about their child’s data should start with their school, which controls that data. We will support the school in responding.
Deletion and changes
To have a website inquiry deleted, write to inquiries@nyfreeschool.com. We will delete it within ten days and confirm when it’s done. If our practices change, this page will be updated first, with a new effective date.
